 Simple Knitted Contemporary Baptismal towel

Patterns for hand knitted altar lace became
widely available circa 1850.  With the present increasing popularity of hand knitted lace,
we present a small , but ever expanding collection of small altar linens.
Some are for experienced knitters, but some are simple
enough to provide an introduction to lace knitting for the intermediate knitter.
The baptismal towels, which would make lovely christening gifts, all make use of the
traditional shell pattern and have a cross knitted into them.  All shell patterns
are adapted from antiques with the exception of "Sarah Kathryn's Towel."
This was designed  specially for the infant daughter of  an
Episcopal priest and his wife who are personal friends.  It would be a great
project for church needlework groups because of it's simplicity.

CAVEAT:  After receiving requests for lace altar linens, it needs to be clarified that lace
is unsuited and inappropriate for small linens such as a corporal.  Those linens must be fine
and smooth to contain any dropped crumbs of the blessed sacrament.
